Commissioned by Hive Curates and Love Camden, Samara was produced in response to the themes of biodiversity and illumination for Light Up Kilburn 2026.
Presented as a light art projection, Samara incorporated motifs of local flora found in Kilburn Grange Park. The design was inspired by the visual language of Islamic art and design, particularly curvilinear roundels found in manuscripts and across architecture in Morocco and Spain.
Using a QR code, visitors were also able to access an info-sheet explaining the inspiration, the geometry, the colours, the flora and fauna motifs and how the approach draws on traditional Islamic art and continuity in design heritage.
